I know: coming from me, it sounds biased. But hear me out first.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n I’ve seen EMR systems in action internationally, from the US, to Japan, to Singapore, heck, even to a public hospital in China where a foreigner like me got hospitalized.<\/p>\n I’ve also seen SeriousMD being used by Filipino doctors first-hand all over the Philippines. (I\u2019ll keep the name anonymous but you might want to join the private group to see her there.)<\/p>\n That statement led me to writing this article because even to this day, I still get asked \u201cWhy do I need an EMR?<\/strong><\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n The short answer? To become a better healthcare provider. The long answer? That’s where the rest of this article comes in.<\/p>\n Sure, I\u2019ve heard of the negative stuff (\u201cSlows me down\u201d or \u201cIt\u2019s confusing\u201d) and I\u2019ve seen some sad scenarios of doctors being forced to use a hideous system by the hospital they are affiliated with.<\/p>\n For the record, many groups\/companies invest in \u201cEMR\u201d systems that are not really built with the doctors\u2019 use in mind, but more for the back-end people (billing and room management, like a system for hotels<\/em>) so I understand why that leaves a bad taste in the mouths of doctors.<\/p>\n But not all EMRs are like that.<\/strong><\/p>\n With that said, I think it\u2019s time to show you what you really came here for.<\/p>\n For obvious reasons, I’ll refer to our own EMR software here (it’s the one I know best, after all!). All of the following things can be done inside SeriousMD. These legacy systems put your data at risk, their use hurts efficiency, and they’re really ugly to look at.<\/p>\n Trust me, I\u2019ve seen all of them.<\/p>\n I\u2019ve even seen clinics using Microsoft Word, which is the most insecure thing you can use to keep the \u201cprivate data\u201d of your patients.
