Abigail Rivadelo

Counseling Psychologist for Diverse Couples (Queer, Non-Queer, Neurodivergent, Neurotypical)

Relationships are beautifully diverse, as are the challenges they face. My practice welcomes all couples—queer and non-queer, neurodivergent (where one or both partners may be on the autism or ADHD spectrum) and neurotypical, or any mix of these. Every relationship—regardless of identity, background, or wiring—can find its way back to connection through greater awareness, new skills, and conversations held with the support to truly slow down and hear each other. That said, I bring particular depth of care to queer couples navigating identity, family, or social dynamics unique to their relationship, and to neurodivergent couples navigating differences in communication, connection, or emotional processing. My approach with both is inclusive, affirming, and culturally sensitive. I walk alongside couples with compassion, clarity, and care—especially when pain overshadows connection. Sometimes partners drift—not because love has disappeared, but because hurt has built walls around it. Old wounds awaken protectors that push, pull, or retreat to keep the heart safe. Words grow sharp, silence heavy, and intimacy feels risky. Yet beneath the defenses is a longing to be seen, heard, and held. In our work together, I hold space for the quiet ache between two people who may feel lost, disconnected from the warmth they once shared, or burdened by repeated misunderstandings. My approach is gentle, trauma-informed, and rooted in deep respect for each partner. Together, we explore the parts that protect and the parts that hurt—fostering safety, trust, and healing. Together, we meet vulnerability with kindness, allowing attachment wounds to be seen and soothed. I also offer practical tools to repair ruptures, strengthen intimacy, and restore your relationship's foundation. Whether you're holding on, letting go, or unsure where to begin, I'm here to walk with you. Wherever your relationship is headed, it deserves care along the way. I'm here to help. Take the first step and book a 30-minute consultation now!

Wherever your relationship is headed, it deserves care along the way. I'm here to help. Take the first step and book a 30- minute consultation now! Couples counseling is a meaningful investment, and your first step is this paid 30-minute consultation. This initial meeting ensures that before beginning full sessions, we first attend to what matters most: 1. Check for urgent safety issues — such as suicidality or dangerous escalation of fights that may involve violence; 2. Identify your reasons for seeking professional help — clarifying the challenges that bring you here; 3. Align on couple goals — exploring what you hope to achieve together; 4. Ask questions about the counseling process — so you can get a feel for how my approach fits your needs. This consultation provides a safe space to pause, stabilize, and begin with practical strategies if immediate concerns arise. By the end, you’ll have a clearer sense of whether continuing with couples counseling makes sense for you.
