Dr. Adrian Espiritu trained at the University of Toronto (Canada) and at the University of the Philippines Manila/Philippine General Hospital. Dr. Espiritu is an expert in the following fields: • Neurology (stroke, epilepsy, migraine/ headaches, neuropathies/ myopathies – diseases of the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles) • Brain medicine (Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias) • Multiple sclerosis (MS) and related neuroinflammatory disorders (neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders, myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease, autoimmune encephalitis, etc.) and • Clinical epidemiology Dr. Espiritu is a Clinical Associate Professor at the College of Medicine, University of the Philippines Manila. He completed a 2-year Fellowship Program in Brain Medicine under the Department of Psychiatry and Division of Neurology at the University of Toronto. This innovative fellowship is an integrated, cross-disciplinary program that involves neurological and psychiatric patients (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias, stroke, epilepsy, functional neurological disorders, traumatic brain injuries, major depressive/bipolar disorders, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, among others) presenting with significant disturbances in affect, behavior, and cognition. He also finished a Fellowship in the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Neuroinflammatory Disorders at the BARLO MS Centre, the largest MS Centre in Canada, in St. Michael’s Hospital, University of Toronto, Canada. He has over 100 peer-reviewed journal publications, the majority of which are in neurology-related subfields. He received the esteemed Bruce S. Schoenberg International Award in Neuroepidemiology from the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) in 2022. He is currently pursuing the thesis requirements of a Master of Science in Epidemiology (Clinical Epidemiology) at the University of Philippines Manila.
