Dr. Ann Meredith Garcia Trinidad completed her medical degree (cum laude) in 2010 from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine under the INTARMED Program – a 7-year medical school curriculum that shortens the whole medical education by 2 years. She proceeded with her Internal Medicine Straight Internship at the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital, where she was awarded as the Most Outstanding Intern in Internal Medicine. She then finished her Internal Medicine Residency and Medical Oncology Fellowship at the same institution, with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Medicine (Major in Medical Oncology). Dr. Trinidad is currently the Head of the Section of Medical Oncology of the Dagupan Doctors Villaflor Memorial Hospital. She is a Diplomate and Fellow of the Philippine Society of Medical Oncology (PSMO), ranking first in the 2016 Philippine Specialty Board of Medical Oncology Diplomate Examination. She previously served as the Chair of the PSMO Multimedia Committee, which aims to provide better access to trustworthy cancer information and increase the public visibility of medical oncologists in the country. She is also a Fellow of the Philippine Society of Oncologists and a Diplomate and Fellow of the Philippine College of Physicians. Dr. Trinidad has a special interest in healthcare social media and medical writing, particularly as avenues for patient education and advocacy. She is an Advisory Panelist of the Americal Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Cancer.Net Editorial Board and has written several articles for the Cancer.Net Blog. In 2015, she started her own Facebook-based patient education social media page where she writes about different cancer-related topics in Filipino, in an effort to help address the negative impact of low health literacy on the health-seeking behavior of Filipino patients. Her page currently has over 131,000 followers and was included in MIMS Today’s “Filipino Health Workers and Social Media: Top pages you must follow.” She is a member of the Collaboration for Outcomes using Social Media in Oncology (COSMO) group and has been serving as one of the Editorial Staff of the OncoAlert Network. She is also one of the Social Media Editors of The Oncologist journal by the Oxford University Press. In 2019, she was one of the graduates of the first European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Leaders Generation Programme Asia and now serves as a member of the ESMO Membership Committee (also previously contributed to the ESMO Practising Oncologists Working Group). In 2020, she also received an International Development and Education Award (IDEA) from the ASCO.
