Dr. Edward Samala is a board-certified psychiatrist who is here to listen, support and help. He understands that every individual's mental health journey is unique and shaped by their lived experiences, strengths and environment. He is committed to providing compassionate and personalized care. He has expertise in managing a wide range of mental health conditions including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, trauma-related disorders, psychosis, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), dissociative disorders (including DID) and personality disorders. He tailors each treatment plan to align with his patients’ specific needs, values, and goals. He is trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychopharmacology (medication management). He is also experienced in various therapeutic approaches such as mindfulness practices, trauma therapy, mentalization-based techniques, and cognitive behavioral strategies. He also incorporates motivational interviewing techniques including adaptations for neurodivergent individuals to support autonomy, deepen self-understanding and strengthen motivation for self-directed growth. He creates a safe, collaborative and understanding space where individuals can explore their experiences and work toward healing and growth. He completed his residency training in General Adult Psychiatry at the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, where he also served as Chief Resident for External Affairs. He is currently a Project Manager of the UP-PGH Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine.
