Dr. Gerard Saranza is a board-certified neurologist with subspecialty expertise in Parkinson's disease and movement disorders. He earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of the Philippines and completed his adult neurology residency at the UP-Philippine General Hospital. He pursued fellowship training in Parkinson's disease and movement disorders at the University of Toronto-Toronto Western Hospital, where his senior year included specialized rotations in Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) programming. Dr. Saranza is trained in botulinum toxin therapy for movement disorders including dystonia, blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm, and spasticity, as well as for other conditions such as sialorrhea. Supported by academic scholarships throughout his medical education and training, Dr. Saranza remains deeply committed to serving the Filipino people. He currently practices as a consultant neurologist at Chong Hua Hospital, Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, and other tertiary hospitals in Cebu, providing specialized care to patients throughout the Visayas and Mindanao regions. He also holds privileges to treat pediatric patients with movement disorders. Dr. Saranza has published in general neurology and movement disorders, with contributions as both first author and co-author in peer-reviewed journals. A dedicated educator, he serves as Assistant Professor at the Cebu Institute of Medicine, where he teaches neuroanatomy and neurology, and as Adjunct Consultant in the Department of Neurosciences at UP-Philippine General Hospital. Dr. Saranza is an active member of several professional organizations, including the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society, the Movement Disorder Society of the Philippines, the Philippine Neurological Association's Movement Disorders Council and Rare Neurological Diseases Special Interest Group, and the Cebu Neuroscience Society.
