Dr. Gerard Saranza is a board-certified neurologist with subspecialty expertise in Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders. He earned his undergraduate and medical degree from the University of the Philippines. He completed his Adult Neurology training at the Philippine General Hospital and further trained in Parkinson's Disease & Movement Disorders at the University of Toronto-Toronto Western Hospital. In his senior year of fellowship training, he had rotations in subspecialty clinics, including Electrophysiology in Movement Disorders and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) Programming. He is also trained to perform botulinum toxin injections for movement disorders such as dystonia, blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm, spasticity, and for other conditions including sialorrhea. Supported by academic scholarships throughout his medical education and training, Dr. Saranza remains deeply committed to serving the Filipino people. He currently practices as a consultant neurologist at Chong Hua Hospital, Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, and other tertiary hospitals in Cebu, providing care to patients from across the Visayas and Mindanao regions. He has also been granted privileges to provide care for pediatric patients with movement disorders. Dr. Saranza has published in the field of General Neurology and Movement Disorders, including first-author publications and co-authorship in respectable, peer-reviewed journals. His research endeavors are currently being supported by the Global Parkinson's Genetics Program (GP2) and the IPMDS Center to Center Program. Moreover, Dr. Saranza is passionate about teaching. He is an Assistant Professor at the Cebu Institute of Medicine, teaching Neuroanatomy and Neurology, and an Adjunct Consultant in the Department of Neurosciences at the UP-Philippine General Hospital. Dr. Saranza is an active member of several professional organizations, including the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (IPMDS), the Movement Disorder Society of the Philippines, the Philippine Neurological Association’s Movement Disorders Council and Rare Neurological Diseases Special Interest Group, and the Cebu Neuroscience Society.
