Dr. Abraham is considered as the "First and Only" Filipino urologist who has trained in two subspecialties in urology: minimally invasive urology and kidney transplantation in two prestigious academic hospitals in the United States for almost four years. After completing his residency in Urology at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute in Manila, Philippines, he traveled to the United States for further training having fulfilled all the requirements of the United States Medical Licensure Examinations. At the University of California Irvine he was trained by Dr. Ralph V. Clayman (who performed the first laparoscopic nephrectomy and prostatectomy in the world, and is Editor-in-chief, Journal of Endourology). Under Dr. Clayman's direct supervision, he developed skills in laparoscopic and robotic-assisted urological surgery such as nephrectomies, robotic prostatectomy, partial nephrectomy and urinary tract reconstruction. He also acquired unique skills in endourology such as Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy-PCNL, ureteroscopy and retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) and endoscopically-combined intrarenal surgery (ECIRS). With these unique skills, the patients who undergo surgery under his care are able to recover faster because of LESS bodily trauma, SMALLER or NO incisions, LESS blood loss, LESS pain and SHORTER hospital stay. In fact, a great number of these endoscopic procedures may now be done as an out-patient procedure. After extensive training in minimally invasive urological surgery, he proceeded to the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston in an ASTS (American Society of Transplant Surgeons)-certified program under the direct supervision of expert transplant surgeons Dr. Barry D. Kahan (considered by many as the Godfather of transplantation immunology), Harvard-trained surgeon, Charles T. Van Buren, Minnesota-trained pancreas transplant surgeon Jacqueline A. Lappin and laparoscopic and transplant surgeon, Stephen M. Katz. Upon completion of this training, he has performed more than a hundred transplant operations. Dr. Abraham has been invited both locally and internationally to speak on various topics in endourology. He has performed live surgery in the Philippines and other foreign countries demonstrating the advantages of upper pole prone PCNL. As a transplant surgeon, he is accredited by both the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and the Philippine Society for Transplant Surgeons. He has performed several kidney transplants, pancreas transplants and has participated in combined dual organ (kidney-pancreas, liver-kidney and kidney-heart) transplants. He holds the position of Assistant Professor of Surgery at the UERM College of Medicine and Medical Specialist at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute. He is currently the Chairman of the Philippine Board of Transplant Surgery, Head of the Section of Minimally Invasive Urology at St. Luke's Medical Center in Quezon City and the Quality Management Team of the Center for Organ Transplantation at the St. Luke's Medical Center, both branches. He is also the lead transplant surgeon at the University of the Perpetual Help DALTA Medical Center Kidney Transplant Unit in Las Piñas City. He has numerous international and local publications in the areas of endourology and laparoscopic urological surgery and transplant surgery, amongst which include the Journal of Endourology, AUA Journal of Urology, the British Journal of Urology International and the American Journal of Transplantation. Dr. Abraham is committed to providing the highest quality of urological and transplant surgical care to all his patients regardless of their stature in life. His guiding principle in his practice of medicine is: “Total healing of the sick patient requires restoration of his physical well-being, self-esteem, faith in men and hope in the Creator who is the source of all health.”
