Jholyan Francis S. Fornillos, RPsy is an Assistant Professor of Psychology and Chairperson of the Research Ethics Committee at the Department of Social Sciences, University of the Philippines Los Baños. He holds a BA in (Social Sciences) Psychology degree from University of the Philippines Tacloban and an MA in Psychology from University of the Philippines Diliman. As a board-certified psychologist, he has continually enhanced his expertise in providing mental health and psychosocial support. With extensive experience in addressing mental health needs, particularly in disaster settings, Jholyan is at the forefront of crisis intervention. As one of the trained psychosocial responders of the Psychological Association of the Philippines (PAP) following Typhoon Haiyan, he played a key role in providing psychosocial aid to affected communities. His work also includes contributing to Katatagan, a resilience-building program designed for Filipino disaster survivors. His research interests encompass human development, geriatric psychology, disaster mental health, resilience, well-being, and criticial and decolonial movements in psychology. He has authored and co-authored journal articles on a range of topics, including the sexual behaviors of older persons, emergent community behaviors in emergency contexts, life stories of older persons with diabetes-related lower limb amputation, and post-traumatic growth among Filipino crisis survivors. As the current president of the Pambansang Samahan sa Sikolohiyang Pilipino (PSSP), Jholyan continues to champion the advancement of Filipino psychology through research, practice, and advocacy.
