Can I reschedule or cancel my appointment?
Yes. I understand that life happens. Whether something unexpected comes up or you simply don't feel up to attending, each appointment may be rescheduled once.
For online sessions, you may reschedule any time before your scheduled session begins. For face-to-face sessions, rescheduling requests must be made by 6:00 PM on the day before your appointment.
If you need to cancel your appointment, whether online or face-to-face, please let me know by 6:00 PM on the day before your scheduled session.
Appointments that are missed without prior notice, or requests made after the stated deadlines, will be considered forfeited.
What is a therapy session?
Therapy provides a safe, confidential space where we can explore what's been weighing on your mind, make sense of your experiences, and work together toward the changes you'd like to see. While we'll spend time talking, therapy can also include learning new coping skills, exercises, and creating strategies that you can apply in your everyday life.
My approach to therapy is "eclectic", which means I don't rely on just one therapy method or technique. Instead, I draw from different evidence-based approaches and tailor them to your unique needs, goals, and circumstances. After all, no two people are exactly alike, so therapy shouldn't be either!
Each session lasts 50 to 60 minutes. During our first session, we'll focus on getting to know each other, understanding your concerns, and identifying the goals you'd like to work toward. If time permits, or during our following session, we'll begin developing a treatment plan together to help you reach those goals.
Do I need to have a diagnosis to start therapy?
Not at all! You don't need a diagnosis to attend or benefit from therapy. While I do work with individuals who have diagnosed mental health conditions, many people also seek therapy because they're feeling overwhelmed, experiencing difficulties in their relationships, navigating a challenging season in life, or simply wanting a safe space to process their thoughts and emotions.
Others come because they want to better understand themselves, improve their relationships, develop healthier habits, change unhelpful patterns, or continue growing as a person. Therapy isn't only about addressing problems, it's also about helping you become the version of yourself you'd like to be.
What should I prepare for my sessions?
Nothing much, really, just bring yourself! There's no need to prepare a speech or have everything figured out before we meet.
If you'd like, you can bring a notebook or use your phone or tablet to jot down any insights, strategies, or reflections during our sessions. Many clients find these notes helpful for journaling or practicing what they've learned between sessions.
Can you provide Fit-to-Work or Mental Health Certificates?
Yes. I can provide documents related to the psychological services you've received, such as a certificate of attendance, a letter confirming that you're currently attending therapy, or recommendation letters when clinically appropriate, such as supporting a request for leave.
If you're ever unsure about the document you need, please feel free to ask. I'll be happy to let you know whether it's something I can provide.
What if I'm running late for my appointment?
If you're running late, don't worry! We can still proceed with the session as long as you arrive within your scheduled appointment time. However, to respect the schedules of other clients, sessions will still end at their originally scheduled time and cannot be extended to make up for lost time.
If you think you'll be significantly delayed or unable to attend, I encourage you to let me know as soon as possible.
