Sometimes, we may not know whether we need counseling or if we should just “suck it up” or “get over it.” We can feel stuck, anxious, and unsure if things will get better in time. Hello! My name is Colo. I offer counseling services for those who want to try talking about their problems. Trust me, I know how hard it is. Please note! Our work should be considered within a wider medical context. As a psychologist, I cannot "cure" disorders, but I provide a space for you to talk about your experience and see if counseling or sharing about it in a non-judgmental way, in a reflective manner, but evidence-based through applied cognitive behavior therapy, will help you feel better. Also note! "Counseling" depends more on dialogue (talking) and collaborative reflection than prescribing medications, because only doctors or psychiatrists can do that. "Collaborative reflection" is a fancy way to say, "We work together and talk about your experiences while also inquiring about and wondering about them." We then identify goals depending on what you would like to achieve through our meetings and co-design activities or behavioral experiments to test how you can progress towards those goals. Though I have worked with a variety of life challenges, I work best with those experiencing low mood and fear or shame. In the first session, we will check if you feel comfortable talking to me, if we are a good fit, if I can help you with your problems, or if I should refer you to a doctor or other professional who may help you better. Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of consulting or counselling do you do? How many sessions will it take?

Counseling is a safe space for you to talk about how you feel. I know how hard it can be to talk about personal problems, so if you are experiencing low mood or fear or shame, it may help if we talk. The number of sessions depends on my opinion and your opinion (collaborative). I am always happy to share my opinion on whether we still need to talk for more sessions—but I also make a habit to check in with you if you feel like the sessions are still helpful for you or if you need to take a break. A good rule of thumb for whether you need more sessions is if we try to set small goals and if you are able to achieve them. For example, "Find a job," or "Make new friends," or "Feel better." We would try to make the goal measurable and attainable so that you can get a feel for progress—for example, instead of "Find a job," you may wish to try, "Draft a simple resume," which is a smaller, measurable step.

What can I expect for the first session?

In the first session, we will check if you feel comfortable talking to me, if we are a good fit, if I can help you with your problems, or if I should refer you to a doctor or other professional who may help you better.

Do I need to pay first to get an appointment?

Yes.
