What’s the deal with this new feature?

Think of it as your virtual secretary and it just does what you need. Here’s what it does:

1. Automatic Reminders: The system sends out reminders to your patients, so they don’t forget their appointment. No more “Ay, nakalimutan ko!” excuses!
2. Easy Confirmation: Patients can confirm their appointments with just a tap. It’s easier than ordering Jollibee delivery!
3. Rescheduling Options: If something comes up, patients can easily request to reschedule. No more ghosting!
4. Real-time Updates: You’ll see confirmations and reschedule requests instantly. It’s like magic, but it’s just good tech!

Why should you care?

2. Reduce No-shows: Fewer empty slots in your schedule means better productivity and potentially increased revenue.

Looking back, the past 2 years was all a blur to us as we were releasing things left and right. We hope we were able to at least help you out during those times and continue to do so moving forward.

A lot of what we did the past 2 years were “reactionary“ which led to some disconnected experiences with some features or simple things such as button placements that could be better.

For the earlier part of this year, we set some targets so we can continue to clean things up behind the scenes and also fix up the small things that lead to an overall better experience of using SeriousMD and NowServing.

There are still a lot more as we have a whole board of them and we’re sniping them off 1 by 1. We don’t announce them anymore because they are small adjustments and improvements.

We were also building processes to further improve how we do things, so that’s why we’re also doing more research and interviews (both doctors and patients) to be able to design, build and release features.

We did miss some target features in Q2 because we needed to adjust the timing again due to the surge at the start of the year and some urgent integrations but we hope to get back on track and still reach all the goals for this year.

We’re also working on a secret project, maybe I could announce it by the end of the year if things continue to move well with it.

Now, for some of the recent updates.

Google Calendar Integration

One of the most requested features on our list was to have a way to integrate and show consultation appointments inside Google Calendar. It’s now possible! Click here to see how.

Apple users: Enable sync to your Google Calendar account, then add the Google Calendar account in your Apple Calendar.

Partners Area

There’s a new partners area inside your account.

The goal of the Partners area is to be able to have a place inside SeriousMD where we can show integrations that provide value to your medical practice, so you can provide even better care for your patients.

For the launch of the Partners area, we’ve started with a new type of integration with Hi-Precision.

As long as you are tagged as the referring physician or patients that used the test request you’ve provided for them, then you will be able to see the results here even if the patient did not go through the NowServing app.

We’re currently still building up the partners area. We believe it will bring tremendous value for you, your care for your patients and your practice in the long run.

Profile Announcements Area – Pop Up

2 years ago, during the start of the pandemic, we announced in the app that we can show a popup on the doctor profile page, just so we could help with informing your patients on what they need to do.

It was all manually done and we were basically reacting to the situation. We shifted that to a form later on but it wasn’t as customizable.

As things are still continuously shifting week to week and even day to day, we’ve released an updated Profile Announcements area.

You now have the control to change the alignment.

Your MediCard patients can now also request an LOA for both online and face to face consultations from their NowServing app. There are also new Sub-Specialties, Services and Social Media Images you can select.

A new HMO integration is coming in July. An update related to prescriptions is coming up next as well! Watch out for that one!

We’ve been in the trenches and working on major projects to further enhance our goal of making healthcare and healthcare technology accessible for everyone, so much so, it feels like time just passed by so quickly.

A lot of the things we’ve done during the first quarter of 2022 were primarily geared at longer term projects (bigger projects such as group calls, messenger overhaul & structural-related things) and catching up on minor enhancements. We’ve mainly been releasing updates and bug fixes behind the scenes, which is why we’re not posting much. There’s nothing sexy when talking about adding buttons for more control, adjusting the interface, improving load speed and things like that. We’ve also dedicated some time working on our internal processes, which will eventually help things be more efficient in the long run.

As we all continue to adapt to the new normal (cliche ) – SeriousMD will continue to be your partner in your day-to-day medical practice.

This month, we’ve released our first major feature of the year…

Group Calls

We have finished re-designing and recreating the virtual calls feature from scratch. Today, Group Calls for SeriousMD is now finally out.

Currently, group calls can have up to 4 participants:

• The doctor and the patient are staples in the call like always
• You can invite 2 other people to join the call by copying and sharing the link or sharing the links to the patient or sending the link to the person to be invited. (We’ve heard about various use-cases, such us parents that want to join the call, doctors with patients here but relative overseas wanted to join the call, to doctors that wanted to invite residents to join the call. I’m sure there are a lot more use-cases, so be sure to let us know how it helps you!)

As the virtual calls feature was recreated from scratch, this update gives us leeway to add enhancements more efficiently in the long term, so what you see now will still be improved over time.

All New Profile Pages

We’ve released a huge update as well for your SeriousMD Profile pages. It’s a completely new design that will also reflect consistently on the NowServing app.

– Badges

Your new SeriousMD Profile pages will now show a badges area. The badges act as extra customization on the page, much like hanging a certificate on the wall of your clinic. These badges are not shown on the directory results. The badges are only visible when your page is loaded.

– Frequently Asked Questions

You probably have a list of common questions that patients ask you by now. We’ve added an all new Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) area inside your SeriousMD account, so you can add all the answers there and patients can see the details even before they book.

We have more plans for your booking pages and improving visibility further, but for now, we have to admit, the Profile page design has come a long way from what it was a few years ago. We really hope you’ll love it.

Anyway, that’s it for this post. I know a lot of you are going back to clinic now because I’ve been getting messages about “I didn’t know that I can use SeriousMD in my clinic and not just for teleconsult!” more and more lately.

Just means we’re not doing a good job conveying that for doctors that just joined.

We also take this time to plan out a release schedule for updates we plan to release as well for the coming year but that’s often just a guess. Unexpected things can throw a wrench in our plans at any time, so we have to be able to adjust with the things that happen.

With the pandemic, it has been a big adjustment as to how we work. It’s easy to assume that as a technology company, we would have things nailed down by now in terms of working remotely, but honestly, it’s still an ongoing struggle for us to adjust and balance. Things will get better as we continue to adapt to this new style of work and we’ll continue to improve the way we push out updates to SeriousMD and NowServing.

We saw a lot of new features this year and personally, I’m most excited to see the fruits of our work from the last 2 updates of 2021; COVID reporting and being able to release the update so that you can start receiving feedback from patients by January 2022 when we release it on the NowServing side. It may not sound like much, but I’m confident that you will find it super useful in the long run.

We also missed some targets this year that we wanted to be able to release by Q4. Sadly, there was just not enough time.

Good thing is, we’ve already started work on many of them, which means 2022 will be PACKED.

Now, speaking of 2022, for SeriousMD, I think I can share some things that are coming up:

• Messenger Overhaul

A few of you that were part of the testing process have seen this already. We’re rebuilding the SeriousMD Messenger from the ground up to be able to provide the things that you need to be able to communicate better with your patients. The current Messenger is part of our pre-COVID SeriousMD and back then, the use-cases of doctors were different. We’re finally able to get to this and update it and we can’t wait to get it out and get it in your hands.

• Sending Forms to be Filled Up

You’ll soon be able to send forms for patients to fill up and send back to you. This has been a long time coming but due to the structural issues that we needed to build first, we couldn’t just push this feature out. The team is finally able to push out the things needed on the NowServing side, so we can now start working on this feature.

• Tagging

Another feature we’ve been wanting to push out for the longest time. Similar to the one above, we needed to update a lot of things behind the scenes before we are even able to work on this.

• New HMO Integrations

A lot of new partnerships are currently on the table on the HMO side. A couple are slated to be finished within Q1.

• Calendar Overhaul

We have some legacy features from our pre-COVID days and they aren’t linked to the queue and calendar. We want to be able to integrate a lot of these older features and make them smarter moving forward. We also know the features you’ve all been asking for. I want them in the app, too. They will be in 2022. 🙂

I have 10 more on my list that I can share but I’ll probably share that at a different time.

Though the challenges never seem to stop coming for all of us, there are a lot of things to be thankful for this year.

We want to thank you for another year of trusting SeriousMD. We hope we’ve helped you become more productive with your practice and to be able to offer the care that your patients needed.

We had a patient list. We barely had notes.

Awww… Version 1.0

We didn’t even have a proper prescription.

We did have a queue list.

Yup, you can say that it was literally a glorified patient list back then, but it was still the best glorified patient list at that time.

But things quickly changed over the next few months. We busted out update after update.
Learned from our mistakes and listened to feedback. We just kept grinding.

Over the course of the next months and years, we were told that we weren’t good enough.

They said that serving and working with doctors will be a dead end.

Well, we view things a little bit differently.

Today marks the start of the 6th year, officially, for SeriousMD.

We’re still alive, grinding, releasing updates every single day (though you won’t notice many of them on the front end) and the team has also been relentlessly churning out and planning out enhancements.

I’d also like to add that I couldn’t be more proud of the SeriousMD team for stepping up during the start of the pandemic.

We had the whole 2020 planned out since December 2019, only to be thrown out the window in a span of 2 days and replaced with a completely new roadmap to be able to help our existing users. Those that have trusted and worked with us since even before this pandemic started.

I still remember every second of those 6 weeks of non-stop, practically 24/7 grind to churn out version 2, online booking, online billing, virtual consults, and many more. That’s excluding the webinars, demos and working with issues that came after that.

It’s been a wild ride to say the least and this is shaping up to be another crazy year. We’ve release a new call update, iOS features, Mac M1 support, NowServing improvements for the site and the app and tons more in the works for EMR improvements.

I’ll talk about some of the upcoming plans in the March and April newsletters, so if you haven’t, be sure to sign up for your free SeriousMD account.

Like I’ve said before, we’d like to look at our small company like the little train, that could.

Why Is This a New Feature?

• It VERIFIES existing patients. Existing patients can already request for an appointment directly.
• It checks for checks for duplicate patients and warns you. If also checks against their previous contact details to let you update it.
• New patients will need to be verified by yourself or your staff before they are allowed to request an appointment. It’s for your own sanity.
• Once a patient makes it to your Appointment Request list, they are automatically sent a mobile app link to download the Now Serving app.

We only had a little time to build this out, again, I ask for your patience.

We’ve worked on this for 9 days, not 6 years like others have. We will continue to improve it and we have been doing so.

As you know, we are primarily a practice management and EMR app but with the current situation, we just wanted to offer our help to all of you and your fellow HCW at the same time. 

So with that said, we are officially launching Virtual Consults.

You can now do online consults with your SeriousMD account.

You can do it in both V1 and V2 but we just suggest using V2 directly.

The GIST

1. Login https://v2.seriousmd.com/doctor/

2. Your patients should have a primary mobile number and/or email address

3. Optionsl but recommended: you “can” queue the patient if you want to schedule all your online consults

4. Press Start Virtual Consultation and away you go!

My Personal Suggestion:

• I suggest adding yourself as a patient or somebody with you in the house.
• Add the primary mobile number and email address. Save.
• Send a “Mobile App Link” to the “patient”
• The “patient” receives an email/SMS with a unique link and taps the link
• The “patient” installs the Now Serving app and logins already
• Doctor’s app: Start a Virtual Consult with that fake patient
• The patient app will ring and just pick up

Just so you can see the process.

It’s actually just 2 steps if the patient is already in your database.

Your virtual consult will open in a separate tab on your browser.

For now, side by side muna, 2 browser tabs open, half the screen with SeriousMD, the other half with the video consult session.

We eventually will merge them together into one screen.

FAQ:

What’s the Send Mobile App Link button for?

Sometimes your patients might not listen and just deletes the link they got from you. You can send the unique link again by using this. If the consult is not yet right now, you can use it to send a link early, so they can download the Now Serving app ahead of time.

Can I send files and can patients send files?

Yes. Once you’re in a call, a chat specific for your session will turn on. You can send and receive from there.

Will you charge me for Virtual Consults?

Though it costs us money for each video session along with running and hosting this, we will not be charging for it at least at this time. Contrary to popular belief, video isn’t free. Viber video calls, FB calls, though they may seem free, it costs those companies a lot of money, so they have to get it back somewhere. For us, if you use the Billing module to bill the patient, the added charge helps us at least to cover a portion of the costs we incur with Virtual Consults, so if possible, please use it.

It only works on smartphones?

Yup, it works on Android and iOS. Sadly, it will not work with old Nokia 5110 phones.

Why do the patients need to download the app? Other services don’t let the patient download apps anymore.

Because those other services cannot do what we can do as a whole. The Now Serving app is linked to your EMR. You can send your instructions, labs, prescriptions, images through the app. There’s a chat feature. Patients can see a record of their consult transcripts. There are also other features like booking requests, knowing their queue number, being notified if it’s almost their turn and more.

So I can only do Virtual Consults from the web app right now?

You can also do it on the latest version of the SeriousMD iOS app. iOS 13 is required.

SeriousMD is officially 4 years old today and in these trying times, it’s really no time to celebrate.

We’ve been pretty quiet the past weeks as we’ve been in quarantine and grinding to get these new things out for you.

In less than 10 days, we’ve built these 4 things to help you cope with the current crisis and we HOPE that you’d be able to use them to help yourself and your patients.

Some of your fellow doctors have seen these announcements in the Facebook Group as that was the only place we could announce quickly without affecting our productivity.

A “pakiusap” at the start: everything is not going to be 100% perfect. These are all new and we are working on all these components at the same time, most of which are built from scratch with the little time we had.

With the current crisis, good enough is better than perfect. Improvements will be done everyday.

Magtulungan po tayo, a bit of patience and understanding at the start.

Announcement #1: SeriousMD Version 2 (Web App is Live)

First things first. For those that have not updated to the latest SeriousMD iOS app yet, please download it from your App Store or thru this link

Now, you might be wondering why you need to do that kasi walang “visible” change on the iOS app.

Well, we need you to update the app because we are now releasing SeriousMD V2 on the web app for everybody.

The iOS app update makes it compatible.

SeriousMD iOS V2 is currently in the “testing phase” and being optimized, so it has not yet been released.

So, our small “pakiusap” is please bear with us during this transition phase.

Yes, the design of SeriousMD on iOS will still be in V1, but BOTH V1 and V2 can be used at the same time.

All the new features that I’ll be talking about WILL have heavy demands and require the latest technology.

That is why we had to bring out V2 now during this crisis to be able to handle the new features we’re bringing to you.

We will be slowly transitioning EVERYBODY using the web to V2 in the next couple of weeks. We will be phasing out V1 soon.

The main purpose of V2 is to make it more flexible behind the scenes, have integrations be possible and of course, lessen your clicks to make you even more productive.

• Try using your templates, you already saved at least 3 clicks.
• Try to send an e-prescription, you already saved 2 clicks.
• Create SOAP note with your Obstetric History data already attached (and others) – you already saved at least 5 clicks.

And so on. Cumulatively, you will save even more time.

Feel free to play with it while we have this quarantine in place. Others are using it already daily since the past week.

ANOTHER reason why we need to use V2 on the web, is because we’ve ALSO finished a way for you to charge your patients remotely and it’s only available in V2.

You can send bills remotely and get paid by using the Billing module inside SeriousMD.

Yup, just like how you normally use SeriousMD as your EMR and practice management app.

We went from north to south, clinic to clinic, room to room, literally all over the Philippines talking to interested doctors, we participated in board meetings, we were invited to speak in events and of course, we had a blast meeting a lot our awesome users for the first time.

2019 started off no differently and it’s why I’m only able to post this on the last day of January!

As has been customary with us here on the blog, we’d like to breakdown some of our goals this year.

I know we had to push back some of the things we planned for 2018 to prioritize the more urgent matters that popped up. It doesn’t mean we won’t be pushing to continue them though, just delayed a bit.

To those that have been with us for years already, you know that we are committed to bring you only the best software and service. Things will get done.

Our first major goal in 2019 is to bring out Version 2 of SeriousMD.

This has been delayed of course. Our initial target was to get this released by late December of 2018 but testing and building it out properly is critical.

Version 2 will usher in a completely new design. (Be sure to join the Facebook Group for a sneak peek.)

If you love the crisp and smooth look of the app now, well, let’s just say that we are bringing it to the next level with up to date design standards.

The #1 reason as to why we are even considering this design overhaul is because over the past 3 years, all your feedback created a lot of new features inside SeriousMD, features that were not part of the initial design.

As the workflow for new features weren’t considered with that initial design, additional clicks were added, the flow of how you use it doesn’t feel as seamless and from our side, it was getting harder and harder to build new things in as the app is HUGE right now.

Our designers went through the whole app meticulously and we even ran case studies with doctors currently using the app.

The new design was born from all the new feedback and usage patterns. Version 2 will also give the development team more flexibility as it’s re-built from the ground up.

Unlike other software, our team takes great pride in how you use the app and how it helps you be more efficient. It’s not just for data entry, it’s an integral part of your practice and we want you to enjoy using SeriousMD. AND we’re not just releasing a new major version “number” for show. Imagine if we did, we’d be at version 900 by now.

When Version 2 is released, it will still have the features that you see and use now but don’t expect a new major feature added just yet. Our priority is to release it publicly to everybody, make sure all the bugs and syncing are ironed out, collect feedback, fix and then, that’s the time we will start releasing new features again once things are stable.

Target: 1st half 2019

The Second: Advanced Reports Module

We will be introducing an Advanced Reports Module in 2019. This will help you do analytics and census with your own data. This will be part of a new higher priced plan that we will introduce.

Current Pro users will have free access to the Advanced Reports Module, so if you are still on the fence and not using SeriousMD yet, be sure to upgrade now to Pro so you can have access to this early.

Obviously, we’re not expecting the first release to be perfect yet but as we’ve been doing for years already, we’ll continue to improve it over time with your feedback. I’ve personally used it already and tested it. Oh, I can imagine the smiles now.

The Third: Establishing More Partnerships and Integrations with Your Hospitals, Your Hospital Departments and Your Societies

We’ve already started partnerships last year with some organizations but more will need to be established in order to really make a change in Philippine healthcare.

The Fourth: That Elusive Patient App

We just had a long planning session and ran a bunch of surveys for the patient app. We have the target use-case already in mind. One thing I can say, it’s going to be different from any other patient app out there.

True, the SeriousMD patient app has been a long time coming. We delayed it for a year already and this should be the year we release the first version.

If you have ideas for what to name the patient app, we’re all ears… because we definitely can’t call it SeriousMD. LOL.

The Fifth: Longshot but It’s a Goal. The SeriousMD Mac App

We’re not 100% sure yet with this one as it will solely rely on Apple’s end. If they release the updates to Mojave with no issues and only slight delays are encountered in our roadmap, we should be able to build a native Mac app in 2019. Again, this isn’t 100%. Here’s to Apple stepping up this year.

Expect some other fun stuff from us as well! We’ll be doing talks, posting on other media platforms and launching a podcast soon. If we ask you to be a guest, please don’t say no!

And…that’s it! We’re not listing down all the big updates and innovations we have planned. These are just the major major major ones. 2019 is going to be a pivotal year for us and we also expect a lot of ups and downs but with your support, we’re confident that we can pull these off.
